Slow Food Mediterranean visit

Slow Food Anglia have been one a the members of the wider Slow Food Mediterranean grouping for three years, even though we have no direct contact with the Mediterranean region we we were invited to join by Slow Food groups from the Mediterranean as share a rich and ancient coastal heritage similar to Sicily, Malta and Italy.
As part of this ongoing collaboration between our groups, members of our Slow Food Anglia group were invited to Malta this September to take part in an olive oil tasting event and also later to the annual olive harvest. This was an exciting new experience for our members and several went to Malta to take part in the tasting event and met several of the olive oil producers on the Island.

We were extremely pleased to be asked to take part and the olive oil tasting event was hosted by Carmen and Joseph Spiteri at their beautiful home and olive grove in the Madliena area of Malta. The tasting was overseen by professional olive oil producer and Sicilian Slow Food member Salvatore Romano and six olive oils from both Malta, Italy and Greece were tasted on the night.
Unfortunately it was not possible for our members to return to Malta a few weeks later to take part in the olive harvest and join with the olive picking in Madliena, but we will be arranging visits back to Malta next summer and autumn for our Anglia members and hope to also have members from Malta and Italy come to visit us in the UK next summer.
