One Planet Festival and Eco Awards in Norwich

Slow Food Anglia was pleased to be asked to take part along with Slow Food Norwich in the popular One Planet festival and Eco Awards held last week at the iconic Millenium Forum building in the beautiful city of Norwich. The One Planet festival and Eco awards were organised by Norwich City Council’s environmental strategy team who are also running the wider One Planet Norwich project. Norwich City Council are very proactive in sustainable living and enviromental projects in the city and for the first time Norfolk County council also took part in helping to organise the  new Norfolk and Norwich Eco Awards  both the festival and awards were held over two days on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th March.
The One Planet festival has been running for several years in Norwich and is designed to showcase sustainable living practices, and to encourage individuals, businesses, organisations and groups in our the city to make small changes every day to reduce the amount they consume so our one planet can sustain us now and in the future.

Silvia and Dermott representing Slow Food Anglia were present on the Anglia stand on both days that the festival took place and on the Saturday Chris from Taylor's Smokery and Mel an environmental and sustainability consultant came to present talks in the large public auditorium in the Forum.
The festival was well attended with several thousand visitors coming over the two days at the Forum, there were many Anglia based groups and organisations taking part including the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, the Green Britain Centre, Farm Share Norwich, the RSPB, Anglia Water and the Campaign for rural England.
Slow food Anglia are very happy to have been able to take part in this exciting event and also be one of the sponsors of an Eco award, we hope to be present again at next years festival which will again be organised by the Environment team at Norwich city Council.

In the evening of Saturday 12th the prestigious Eco Award ceremony took place and Slow food Anglia sponsored and presented the award for best small Eco producer, this year being won by Mrs Temples cheeses, a small cheese making business based near Wells next the Sea in North Norfolk. Mr Temple one of the owners was present to collect the award from Dermott and Silvia of Slow Food Anglia and the evening saw several awards to outstanding businesses and individuals working and living in Norfolk.
Due to the ongoing collaboration between Slow Food Anglia together with Slow Food Norwich and Norwich City council, we are now planning a dedicated Slow Food Anglia food and sustainable living festival in Norwich this August, where we showcase both local artisan producers and also groups who wish to hold workshops and talks on sustainability projects currently taking place in the county of Norfolk.
