Slow Food Anglia at Thornage Hall

Slow Food Anglia were pleased to be asked to take part at the annual fund raising event at Thornage Hall in north Norfolk, we were invited after we had members of the Thornage Hall team at out festival at Holkham Hall last November.
Thornage Hall is a Camphill community, Camphill communities were established as communities that are based on an ethical foundation that recognises the uniqueness of individuals and seeks to respect, value and enhance the strengths and potential in everyone.
The Hall was originally built in 1482 and was the former Grange of the Bishop of Norwich, the grounds were very close by the village of thornage and extended to just over 70 acres.
The Hall was gifted to the Camphill community in the 1980's and the community was finally established in 1989 and now works closely with Freebridge community housing.

Thornage Hall is today and independent charity which provides a living, work and learning facilities for adults with learning disabilities and also works closely with the local community in this beautiful part of north Norfolk.
Part of the community revolves around the Biodynamic farm which is in the Hall grounds and the farm produces fantastic range of vegetables and fruit and also superb meat, the beef being available to purchase at the farm. Several local restaurants use the produce from the farm, including Morston Hall on the Norfolk coast and also Benedicts restaurant in Norwich and the owner and chef Richard Bainbridge cam last Sunday and gave over an hour of cookery demonstrations to the public.
Richard is also a staunch supporter of Thornage and the menus at his restaurant are tailored to reflect the produce that is available from the farm during the changing seasons throughout the year.

Slow Food Anglia is very involved with local producers and communities throughout East Anglia and events such as the one held at Thornage Hall are essential to our ongoing participation in community events we support.
Part of the ethos of Slow Food throughout the UK and Internationally is the promote good, sustainable food and the producers who work so hard to provide it, and the biodynamic farm at Thornage Hall is a wonderful example of the type of sustainable enterprise that we support and promote.
Slow Food Anglia also have close links to the Biodynamic Association  in the UK and we have held events in the past, including tastings of biodynamic wines and olive oils, and plan to continue with our cooperation with the Biodynamic association at events and also will work closely with their offices in Stroud in the coming years.
